The vision of North Sydney campus
The North Sydney campus underwent a comprehensive refurbishment led by Built, with the design expertise of WoodsBagot.
Their vision encompassed a minimalist and modern approach, evident in the design of the lift lobby and kitchen breakout area, which featured a sleek, bare concrete floor aesthetic without any exposed aggregate.
While the original flooring consisted of tiles, the team decided on a floor topping solution that could closely emulate the desired bare concrete appearance.
The transformation team
To accommodate Built’s stringent schedule and ensure minimal disruption, they collaborated closely with Honestone to utilize a rapid cure cement topping.
Upon demolition of the existing floor tiles, a weak and cracked cement screed was discovered. Honestone’s experienced team advised that this compromised layer needed to be removed and replaced with a more stable concrete substrate.
This led to the creation of a 40mm setdown, which required bulk filling before applying the 6mm decorative cement topping.
This development presented two challenges: scheduling an additional shutdown of the area and addressing the extra costs associated with bulk filling.
The perfect Solution
Fortunately, Honestone’s rapid cure screed was able to effectively resolve both issues.
Not only was it more cost-efficient than a traditional leveling compound, but its overnight installation also allowed other trade work to proceed unimpeded the very next morning.
As a result, the project remained on track, and the North Sydney campus was successfully revitalized with a contemporary, elegant look.
